[S10-EV] Conversion from nimh back to lead acid

Steve Hawkins Tue, 29 Nov 2022 22:30:52 +0000 2022 Thread size 8
Hi Ryan, The resistor is adjacent to the BPCM on the shortest pigtail. Easy to see when your pack is open. You will also need TIS2000 software on a XP machine in addition to the tech2 to complete pass-through programing. Steve From: Ryan Dela [mailto:[email removed]] Sent: Tue...

[S10-EV] Conversion from nimh back to lead acid

Thank you for the information Steve. I will scour the manual to look for where I can find this resistor in the vehicle. I have avoided using the Tech 2 to make changes, it sounds like I will have to get more comfortable to get this converted back. The modifications to the batt...

Hi Ryan, I am not sure of everything that Jeff did in his conversations (I have one of his packs in a truck but have not opened it up yet). Nevertheless, I generally believe you would only need to reprogram the BPCM to the PbA calibration. You would have two choices of PbA cal...

Hi S10 guys, I was researching riding electric laws tractors a few days ago when I ran across this information in the comments section of the Home Depot web page description of a Ryobi 30-inch electric riding mower.? I had not heard of the desulfation process before, and thoug...

It sounds crazy but way back in 2005 I had Jeff at EV Bones convert my 1997 lead acid S10 to nimh... I am curious if anyone knows how to convert it back to the lead acid program? It was awesome in 2005 and I am thankful that I did it. I am designing a lithium ion battery pack...

Hi Don, Great points Don. Well put. We all wish they could be saved, but the fire risk is just too much even through our hearts still hope. s From: theoldcars [mailto:[email removed]] Sent: Wednesday, February 17, 2021 11:04 PM To: William Calluthers Cc: [email removed] Subjec...

Regarding the use of the Ovonic NiMH modules While they might be useable, to do so however is with great risk. NiMH chemistry charging is done with overcharging balancing, which puts them in high risk of thermal runaway, and catching on fire. If you we?re going to use the Ovon...

I do not undrestand why you say "Clearly the truck will need new batteries to work?" There is a good chance that those NiMh batteries can possibly be "woken Up" via a series of very slow trickle charges followed by full discharges.?Charge at say 500ma per battery. Don will cor...

Hi all, *TLDR: I am seeking advice for getting lithium batteries into an S10 EV.* *Here is a collection of S10 EV resources I've collected (manuals, flyers, etc.)* https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1tptiS5aXI0pcZ87QZGznfIPPXqHC641- My name is Billy and I live in Saratoga,...

I would expect DTC131 to set in the PCM if the BCA measured voltage and the BPCM voltage over UART do not agree in the situation you're describing. If you were to try rewiring the BPCM to measure all 27 modules between J1-1 and J1-32 then you would expect to see BPCM DTC219 wh...

If the idea of paralleling 2- 60 AH packs works, you should get 100 mile range. In a message dated 8/24/2017 11:46:39 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email removed] writes: Are the Leaf batteries pouch cells? They appear to show a similar dimension. You can buy the whole car for...

Are the Leaf batteries pouch cells? They appear to show a similar dimension. You can buy the whole car for $7000 , of course it seems a shame to pull apart a perfectly good electric car for it's batteries. Range wise? I dont think I want to be driving an s10 for 400 miles, a g...

Although I like the specs on these pouch cells, I haven't found a good price on them. After a quick search, It seems a 60 AH pack is between $7,000 to $21,000 using 3.2 V- 30 AH pouch cells at $52.00 each. To have a range of 400-450 miles, you're looking at 5 or 6 times that c...

Re: Lithium conversion. If finances allow I would strongly recommend looking at making your own modules from the new generation "pouch cells" (1200 amp/cell discharge rate would give outstanding performance. Charge times are minutes not hours. Cycles are up around 15000. Densit...

[S10-EV] Lithium conversion

Hi Eric, Thanks for the input. I think the 18650 cells are a better choice for several reasons. The Prismatic cells, often called "Yellow Bricks", don't have the energy density of 18650's and you can't even fit a 100 AH pack in our battery box. However, at 3.2 volts per cell,...

Hi Kevin and all, I'll chime in here.I pretty much consider successfully messing with the trucks soft firm ware as an impossibility since i wouldnt know what i was doing. so you'd pretty much have to fool the BPCM into thinking all is well in the battery box. One of the though...

Ok gang coolant does matter. It must be Dexcool and will say it on the container. AutoZone or Oriellys, yes its typically orange. The conversion to NiMH from lead on the 1997s were not an easy modification. The programming of the BPCM alone was not enough to make it all work....

Hello all, Here is how I laid out my pack. They are taped together to make "modules". Only 1st level is used. I will be looking for some kind of foam rubber to lay on top, to keep them from bouncing up, with the lid compressing that. Currently, I am spoofing the 26 12v sense l...

Wow Jose, that is spectacular! You know, I had figured too that it was possible for mere mortals to change them, but was just too fearful. It just shows that 90% of the job is really just starting it. Also, it was a factor in me selling the truck, as I would never had trusted...
