Hello, My name is Michael Anzalone. Today I became the proud/concerned owner of a 1998 S-10 (VIN: 1GCDE14H9W8108930). The truck is not running, it has a dead pack. The previous owner told me that he replaced the native NiMH battery pack and some temperature sensors last year....

As a RAV-EV driver, I'd echo Stephen's advice. Its right up there with "cycle the power on everything" when you have a home network problem. It goes along with the old adage: "Do the (relatively) cheap things first", and has solved many an unexplained error. Hope it solves you...

First, make sure you have a good aux 12 volt battery. The most common reason for "service now" is a low voltage on a worn out aux battery. I replaced mine with an Optima Yellow Top battery. Some have done this on their RAV4 EVs and cleared up problems as well. Stephen in Oakla...

I have to concur with Paul on this question. There are additional items to address. Adding that if you have refitted from NiMH to PbA, you also need the software and tools to reprogram the BPCM to PbA battery chemistry. The existing charging capabilities of the EV1 drive syste...

Personally, I think you should not plan to "long term" store the truck by disconnecting the HV. The NiMH batteries in these trucks will self-discharge in only a few weeks, so they need to be charged at least every two weeks, preferrably every week. You shouldn't fear the fire...
