Hello everyone, I?m finally ready to take on a new EV project, hoping someone might be able to help me get one? Have been eyeing the S10 EV for quite a few years now, and think it would be a great match to my 2001 Honda Insight project (picture attached). Open to any condition (good or bad), not fussy on damage or if the battery is dead, I?m open for a challenge! If you have one for sale or know someone who might sell theirs, please send me an email at: [email removed] <mailto:[email removed]> Can pickup in person anywhere in North America, thank you Regards, Daniel Trainer > On Jan 4, 2022, at 10:46 AM, [email removed] wrote:

Hello Everyone,
I have a 97 EV S-10 that was driven to the place it was parked when I
bought it. Has not been ran in over 10 years. Someone sat on the half tonneau cover can cracked it Batteries are bad. The only work that has been done to the truck is that I
opened the box and it has the black panasonic cells Comes with a paddle charger 5,000 miles
Still has factory original tires on the passenger side of truck. Some rust on frame, as it was originally from ohio. Brad Riggle

[S10-EV] Conversion from nimh back to lead acid
Ryan Dela

It sounds crazy but way back in 2005 I had Jeff at EV Bones convert my 1997
lead acid S10 to nimh... I am curious if anyone knows how to convert it
back to the lead acid program? It was awesome in 2005 and I am thankful
that I did it. I am designing a lithium ion battery pack for it and the charge profile for
lead acid lines up perfectly with a relatively basic lithium ion pack while
the current NIMH charge profile voltage is too high for one cell
arrangement and too low for the next step up in cell configuration. I am mainly concerned about charge cut off. One option I have considered is
interrupting the paddle insertion circuit to command the charger to
disengage when the voltages gets to me desired point. Has anyone else tried
this? Ryan Dela

[S10-EV] [EEVC] Fwd: Conversion from nimh back to lead acid

Hi S10 guys,
I was researching riding electric laws tractors a few days ago when I ran across this information in the comments section of the Home Depot web page description of a Ryobi 30-inch electric riding mower.? I had not heard of the desulfation process before, and though you might want to look into this aspect of a use of 12v batteries. --Ryobi 48V Brushless 30 in. 50 Ah Battery Electric Rear Engine Riding Mower? MSRP $3,999. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-48V-Brushless-30-in-50-Ah-Battery-Electric-Rear-Engine-Riding-Mower-RY48130/312460582 50 Ah battery?? 41"Wx56"D
Internet #312460582, Model #RY48130, Store SKU #1005142189
Sealed Pb-A battery.? A:? They are Sealed Lead Acid/Absorbent Glass Matt batteries. The only maintenance is to keep the mower plugged into the charger when not in use. The charger monitors the batteries and only charges them when the pack voltage falls below 50 volts.
by? |Nov 13, 2022??? Only 1-yr warranty on batteries.? Repair shops are a rarity.
A:? My mower uses an average of $1.16 in electricity during a 4 month winter storage period for the last 4 winters. It is NOT a trickle charger and every charge cycle includes a de-sulfation process to extend the battery life.
Other comments say to keep these batteries on the charger at all times when the vehicle is parked, especially in cold weather.? That is not necessary for Cub Cadet Li-Ion batteries, which only need a charge and runaround monthly even in very cold weather.? I have a Cub Cadet CC30e.? --Jay So you might be able to buy a set of those batteries and the charger, as many as you need to get to the voltage needed by your EV's motor.
Good luck with your project.? Let me know if this helps.

[S10-EV] Conversion from nimh back to lead acid

Hi Ryan, I am not sure of everything that Jeff did in his conversations (I have one of his packs in a truck but have not opened it up yet). Nevertheless, I generally believe you would only need to reprogram the BPCM to the PbA calibration. You would have two choices of PbA calibrations in the tech2, the original Delco modules and the Panasonic 1260U modules. You would also need to change the technology resistor from the NiMH spare to the PbA of choice before programing. I will copy a picture of the three (3) tech. resistors below for reference. I also believe that Jeff did a fair amount of physical adjustments to the pack to make space for the Ovonic modules, assuming you do not have a native pack, but those, less the thermal considerations, would likely not be material to your project. I understand others folks have converted packs and will likely weigh in further. Hope that helps, good luck,

Subject: Re: [S10-EV] Conversion from nimh back to lead acid It sounds crazy but way back in 2005 I had Jeff at EV Bones convert my 1997 lead acid S10 to nimh... I am curious if anyone knows how to convert it back to the lead acid program? It was awesome in 2005 and I am thankful that I did it. I am designing a lithium ion battery pack for it and the charge profile for lead acid lines up perfectly with a relatively basic lithium ion pack while the current NIMH charge profile voltage is too high for one cell arrangement and too low for the next step up in cell configuration. I am mainly concerned about charge cut off. One option I have considered is interrupting the paddle insertion circuit to command the charger to disengage when the voltages gets to me desired point. Has anyone else tried this? Ryan Dela

To: "[email removed]<mailto:[email removed]>" <[email removed]<mailto:[email removed]>> Happy New Year! My Magne Charger has the same type of damage since the previous owner. I would like to repair it.
I didn't recognize the charred part as diodes and was guessing it might be some type of mechanical contact that failed.
How can the replacement part number be identified? Is a more robust alternative worth considering? Thanks,

Hello to everyone, If there is available on any of your homes a Gen 2 Magne Charger that you are willing to sell, it would be great, as today a power surge from the power company at home, made the one I am using explode and some other home appliances as well........ I opened the charger to see the damage and the main bridge diodes were burnt by the voltage spike. it was connected to the power line idling switched off not in use when the surge ocurred. Here I am including a couple of pictures of the burnt diodes. The board is very dirty with dust due to the long years in service not because of this particular inccident. I think it could be fixed, but will have to investigate further, this just happened this morning.... Thank you for the information Steve. I will scour the manual to look for where I can find this resistor in the vehicle. I have avoided using the Tech 2 to make changes, it sounds like I will have to get more comfortable to get this converted back. The modifications to the battery box are reversible, but you are correct ? I will have to build a new support structure for the new cells either way. Hi Ryan, The resistor is adjacent to the BPCM on the shortest pigtail. Easy to see when your pack is open. You will also need TIS2000 software on a XP machine in addition to the tech2 to complete pass-through programing. Steve From: Ryan Dela [mailto:[email removed]]
