[S10-EV] Trucks still driving...
So after waiting about a month to hear further responses, I conclude that my truck is likely the only one still running on the Ovonic NiMH. Somewhat sad to know that, but I'm more inclined to believe it now. It takes a lot of knowledge and maintenance to keep one alive, and those who bought one thinking there were going to save money on gas and oil changes... I have an iceberg to sell to you! For me it's essentially always been a technical hobby, just a nice way to teach myself interesting stuff you can't find in books.
We did hear from Jose Movarec who found himself some new EV1260's from Japan (3 such modules are found under the rear bench seat in the GM mild (parallel) hybrid pick-up trucks of 2005-2007. (I heard they were "unavailable" through GM in the USA for any purpose other than fixing one of their recent trucks; and then GM bought back many of the 3000 or so units they sold). About 2 years ago when the same question was asked, there wasn't anybody else either who had an "original" running truck, and the same sort of talk about converting to Lithium, but nothing definitive. Also a few people parting out, or in storage waiting for the day...
The truth is the EV's of this era were prototypes pressed into service to earn CAFE credits, and there is not a lot of financial sense in their Lithium conversion today, given the (recent) used EV car market, and service parts availability for our extinct bird. Unless you simply can't do without an electric pick-up truck as a work tool... Anyway, I still think it's cool to have and EV1 dressed as a pickup, even if it's essentially for my gardening tasks and similar work projects around the house. It's something the neighbors can't ever have, regardless of money. Greg Rohrauer. -------------- next part --------------
