[S10-EV] S10-EV Digest, Vol 139, Issue 11

Wow Jose, that is spectacular! You know, I had figured too that it was possible for mere mortals to change them, but was just too fearful. It just shows that 90% of the job is really just starting it. Also, it was a factor in me selling the truck, as I would never had trusted anybody to ship a PIM anywhere. Where are you going to get another one when it is dropped on I-80 in the rain no less? I'm wondering if you took any photos/videos doing this that could be posted for people to see. I'd be interested just to see how it is actually done. Also, as if that wasn't spectacular enough, if I understood Jose correctly he obtained replacement batteries from Japan? That is the only place to get them, and unfortunately they really aren't the same battery, just in size only. But they are better than the batteries here that GM was using on the "hybrid" (in name only) start-stop trucks. I knew a lady who went to Japan, but to casually mention to her, "Oh, and could you get 26 of the Panasonic EV-1260 batteries on the flight home?" I did correspond with a guy in Japan who probably would have bought and shipped them for me, but the exchange rate just didn't work out. So I'm wondering how these new batteries are working out. I had found a possible way with two six volt PbA batteries, but never got around to getting them. If anybody is interested in that research I can dig in the archives and post it. Subject: Re: [S10-EV] S10-Ev capacitors Hello Kevin and everyone! If you read carefully the past threads regarding the capacitors, it is really important to change them to make sure they do not burst like a grenade and destroy the PIM. I think last capacitors Jeff had, are owned by Don. I could not buy them from him, so I found a perfect replacement available in the market. They are exactly the same size, bolt pattern voltage and capacity. You need 4 of them. You can find them here:
http://www.newark.com/nichicon/lnc2w222mseg/aluminum-electrolytic-capacitor/dp/27T9751?ost=LNC2W222MSE
I replaced them on my truck on November last year. It is not difficult to do the swap. If you have any questions ask me. Regards

Subject: Re: [S10-EV] S10-Ev capacitors Great find, Jose! Nichicon is a Japanese company which usually means high quality design and manufacturing. They do have a facility in China as well. Does it say on your capacitors where they were manufactured?
It is good to see all the activity in the S10-EV group. Those of you that are converting to Li-ion might want to make contact with Richard Hatfield (of Lightning Motorcycle fame) as he very successfully converted his S10-EV to Li-ion a few years ago.
I have a "bunch" of parts from two S10-EVs and may be able to help if anyone is looking for original parts.

Subject: Re: [S10-EV] S10-Ev capacitors Thanks Lee!One of my biggest concerns about converting to lithium is, after spending so much for the conversion, something unavailable goes out. Good to know someone may be able to help.Kevin Happy Connecting. Sent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S® 5 -------- Original message --------
