[S10-EV] S10-EV Digest, Vol 139, Issue 9
>From what I remember, the capacitors were more prone to failure on the NiMH, but the PbA trucks could have capacitor failure too. Now, all these years later, all original capacitors would be highly suspect. According to Jeff, these parts were a compromise to limitations, and didn't have a long lifetime between failures. I thought the capacitors Jeff found were of much higher quality, but now those capacitors too are aging. So I don't know if it is possible to get a new capacitor of the type Jeff found, or if there is an even newer higher quality capacitor out there. I do know that it is extremely bad news if there is a capacitor failure. I believe it is possible for a regular person to change them, but it is delicate work and the new capacitors must be, as in critical, torqued to the correct value, not too much and not too little. I guess after doing several Jeff was able to get things perfect, which is the type of person he was. I think he also machined a bit on the PIM for better heat transfer, but I don't know if this is necessary or what is involved to do that. The person with the current information would be Don Blazer in Oregon. His email address is [email removed] I don't have mine anymore, but it would be great knowing the ones out there are doing fine. Subject: [S10-EV] Fwd: Converting to li-ion Hi Niel, Jack and Ryan (and other interested parties),
I am also interested in a Li-ion upgrade for my (native NiMH) truck. Please keep me in the communication loop and let me know if there's any way I can help.
On a related note - I have seen some Chevy Volt battery packs being sold, and wondered how big a challenge it'd be to interface it to the S10's. Any thoughts?
Best regards,

Subject: [S10-EV] Converting to li-ion Hi Everyone,
I've also decided to go lithium with my stock PbA, and hoping to accelerate my snail's pace on the conversion. So far I've taken the box off and gave it a good bath. Next I would like to hook-up a GM Tech2 to read the diagnostics before I drop the battery box. Does anyone have a GM Tech2 they would like to sell, or could rent me? I also need to replace the capacitors prone to failure that I've read about here. Thanks,Ryan Fralish --Forwarded Message Attachment--

Subject: Re: [S10-EV] Converting to li-ion Hi Ryan,I too was concerned about my aging capacitors. But I was told it wasn't necessary on the Pba trucks. Hopefully someone here could confirm that info? Also, I'd like to go to lithium but the cost is a big concern. $14K is what I'm hearing. KevinBear, DE Happy Connecting. Sent from my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S® 5 -------- Original message --------
