[S10-EV] Regarding Air conditioning DTC's

Michael, Glad to hear your truck is up and running again. I had similar problems earlier this year. What I found is that the heater created a moisture problem in the cab when I tried to defrost. Also think there is a water leak somewhere in the cab. The computer that controls the heating and air is located under the driver's side front seat and is mounted on top of the carpet. When the carpet gets wet, the computer gets wet and does strange things. I took the computer out, found if full of corrosion and mold. I was able to clean it with contact cleaner and carefully cleaned the terminal connections. I still may need to replace the connector pins, but so far it still working. After putting it back together I found that there was enough wire coiled to mount the unit with velcro to the back wall. Problems with it have ceased. Still have
the moisture problem when the defroster is on. It fogs up the windows and is useless. Anyone else had this problem? Don, Thanks for the info on the cooling pump and caps (which is??). I still have an original GM pump, so I would like to purchase one from you. Pat Williams ([email removed])

[S10-EV] Regarding Air conditioning DTC's

Hi Pat, When I purchased my truck, one of the problems it had was a bad HTCM.
I found the unit sitting in a puddle of water under the driver's seat. My
truck has a vinyl floor liner (not carpet), so any water that gets under
there will remain there for a long time. Cleaning & drying the PC board did
not help in my case, and there were no signs of corrosion or physical damage
at all. After buying a new HTCM, I rerouted the wiring harness and installed
the unit behind the glove compartment with Velcro. As you pointed out, the
harness is plenty long enough. I would recommend this simple modification
to all S10 E owners. I wonder why GM didn't forsee the potential for water
damage to the HTCM? As for the defroster, mine seems to be adequate when the heat pump is on,
but my fuel fired heater no longer works, so it's useless when the
temperature drops. I am contemplating a retrofit using propane instead of
deisel/kerosene, but this project is currently...dare I say it?...on the
"back burner" (sorry, couldn't resist) Best,

[S10-EV] Regarding Air conditioning DTC's

My 1997 still has the big sticker on the dash, near the glove box,
warning you to pull over before you turn on the heater/defroster. It
warns of excessive fog on the windshield so I'm guessing what you have
is normal. That said, I have never had fogging in my truck. Kevin McMullin -----Original Message-----

[S10-EV] Regarding Air conditioning DTC's

Stephen Weitz Mon, 28 Jun 2010 12:50:25 -0700 2010 / #244
The defroster problem is well known.
It may even mention it in the owners manual.
The reason is because the heater is a heat pump.
It takes quite a while to get hot air. It is best to turn on the heat and defroster for some time before driving the truck.
Once everything is warmed up and defrosted, all should be fine. Stephen On Jun 28, 2010, at 8:03 AM, Pat Williams wrote: > Michael,
